Some friends and I went dancing at the Fashion Cafe in Hanoi tonight. It was fun. I hadn’t danced in a long time and they were just learning, but it’s safe to say that we like it a lot. One of my friends dances Ballroom, but she knows the steps for Salsa which makes it fun.

The newbies have caught the fever and now want to take lessons. I could use some lessons and refresher courses as well. Just like anything else- if you don’t use it, you lose it.

And she was right under my nose! She’s a fellow teacher in the same department I’m in. She dances ballroom and said that she knows all the ballroom dances and some Latin. I was impressed and mad that i didn’t know a month ago. But now that I do, it’s soooo on! Apparently there is a ballroom competition this weeknd and she is trying to get tickets. If not, we’re gonna go dancing anyway.

It happens every Fall semester at Oklahoma State University and grows in number each year. Last year was my second Salsa Ball but I’d have to say that the first experience was the best. Isn’t it always?

This year will be even better, I’m sure. There are a lot of Salsa Ball veteran staff returning which will mean that a lot of things will go much smoother. The band for this year? I don’t know. They haven’t announced it yet. Last year we had the Louis Shati Orquesta. They were great. The only downside I remember were the long breaks, but that was due to the interviews that were taking place. I hope that they do what was discussed at the end of Salsa Ball 2006, which was to bring in 2 bands. How lucky and spoiled the attendees would be.
